Quick answer
Do storage units have outlets?
Most don't. Of the 8,857 facility websites we could read, about 4 in 100 say they have outlets inside units. Many facilities leave them out to limit fire risk and to keep people from living in units. The ones that do offer power often charge more and set rules on what you can plug in.
Read the full guideHow we check each listing
A listing only shows as verified when we can point to the facility's own words.
We read the facility's site
Amenity lists, unit tags, and FAQ pages. Not marketplace guesses.
We save the exact quote
Every listing shows what the facility says and when we last checked.
Owners and renters fill gaps
Facilities can claim a listing. Renters can tell us what they actually found.

Questions people ask
Is electricity in a storage unit metered?
It depends on the facility. Some include it in the rent, some add a flat monthly fee, and some meter each unit. When a facility lists its billing, we show it on the listing.
Can I run power tools in a storage unit?
Only where the lease allows it. Ask how many amps the circuit carries before you bring a compressor or welder, and get the answer in writing.
What's the difference between an outlet and an RV hookup?
An outlet is inside an enclosed unit. A hookup is a power post at an outdoor or covered parking spot, often 30 or 50 amp, mainly for battery tenders.
Can I live in a storage unit with power?
No. Storage leases and local codes do not allow anyone to live in a unit, with or without power.
