Can I rent a storage unit with electricity?
Last updated October 2026
Yes, but only at some facilities, and often only in some of their units. This site lists 517 facilities whose own websites confirm power, out of 8,857 we read.
The big chains all say the same thing. Extra Space says “select Extra Space Storage locations offer units with electrical access,” and that availability varies by facility. StorageMart’s business storage FAQ says “only select units include power outlets.” CubeSmart says some of its facilities offer unit lighting and electricity.
Most units don’t. Storelocal, another operator, puts it simply: “Most units don’t have electrical outlets, just a light.”
Power comes in two forms on this site:
- Outlets inside an enclosed unit: 349 facilities.
- Power at an RV, boat, or car space: 251 facilities.
Some facilities offer both. If you want to charge a vehicle battery, a parking space with an outlet may be all you need.
To rent one, start with the facilities near you that list power, then call. Both Extra Space and StorageMart tell renters to ask the local manager before committing to a lease. Ask which exact unit has the outlet, whether it’s open now, how many amps it carries, and whether power costs extra.
Get the unit number in writing. A facility with powered units may also have many without, and the lease should show you rented one that has power.
