Which storage companies offer units with outlets?
Last updated October 2026
Most big chains have some locations with power, but none offer it everywhere. The table shows the companies with the most locations on this site that confirm power.
| Company | Locations with confirmed power | Outlets in units | RV, boat, or car power |
|---|---|---|---|
| Extra Space Storage | 22 | 22 | 0 |
| Public Storage | 22 | 11 | 12 |
| U-Haul | 19 | 19 | 3 |
| CubeSmart | 12 | 12 | 1 |
| RecNation | 8 | 4 | 5 |
| SmartStop Self Storage | 6 | 2 | 5 |
Each chain confirms it on its own site. Extra Space says units with electricity are at select locations. Public Storage says some units have electric outlets. U-Haul lists electrical outlets for vehicle storage at select locations. CubeSmart says some of its facilities offer unit lighting and electricity.
The same chain can say yes at one site and no at the next. One SmartStop location in San Gabriel, California says it does not install outlets in its units “for safety reasons,” while other SmartStop locations on our list do have power.
Independent facilities are a better bet. About 10 in 100 independent sites we checked list outlets in units, compared with about 2 in 100 chain locations.
So start with location, not brand. Find the facilities near you that list power, then call and ask which unit has the outlet, how many amps it carries, and how it’s billed. Get the answer written into your lease, since a manager’s promise on the phone won’t help if the unit changes hands or the rules change.
