Is there a drive-up storage unit with an outlet near me?
Last updated October 2026
Possibly, but they’re rare. Drive-up units with outlets do exist, and you’ll usually find them at independent facilities that list power in their unit descriptions.
A drive-up unit is a ground-level unit you can pull a vehicle up to. U-Haul describes them as “enclosed, outdoor storage spaces on ground level,” a lot like a garage. Public Storage defines drive-up storage as a unit “you can access directly by vehicle,” and CubeSmart says you can “park right outside your unit.”
None of those pages say drive-up units come with outlets. U-Haul also notes they’re usually not climate controlled, so a powered drive-up unit is a separate thing to ask for.
In our data, 17 facilities with confirmed power mention drive-up access or driving up in the line we quoted from their website. Some describe “drive-up units with electricity” directly. Others list drive-up units and power separately, so the outlet may be in a different unit.
When you find a candidate, ask the facility:
- Is the outlet inside this drive-up unit, or only in indoor units?
- How many amps is it, and is it on its own circuit?
- Can I charge a vehicle battery or run a light while I’m there?
Drive-up units with power are popular with people who want to charge tools or keep a battery topped up. Expect to wait for one at busy facilities, and ask to be put on a list if none are open.
